In February 2011 I taught a class together with Danila Pellicani at Trade School NYC on how to make a simple synthesizer with an Arduino microcontroller and few other electronic components.
The lesson included a brief introduction to the very basics of electronics and the principles of sound synthesis, plus an important part dedicated to design and user interfaces.
Since the time for the lesson was not so much we opted for a straightforward approach explaining most of the concepts with references to everyday life, and leaving much time as possible to direct experimentation.
This way participants had the chance to experience by hand that understanding and playing with science and technology can be funny and rewarding.
